Putting Together Jillian's Nursery

One of the greatest things we have gotten to do before Jillian comes is preparing her nursery.  We went to countless websites and stores to pick the right crib in the perfect color, find the bedding that we absolutely loved, and choose all the accent pieces that would make her room complete.  It is no wonder that women are pregnant for 9 full months, because with a Mommy as picky as me and a Daddy as opinionated as Julian, it took us awhile to make our selections and get it all ordered.  But alas, in early December, Jilly's furniture came in and we began to set up her nursery.
This is the mess that we started with, because her room was originally a guest bedroom, but Julian moved the guest bed into his Man Cave.  So when her furniture came in big boxes, and all the leftover odds and ends were still in there, this room was a mess!!!
We got all the furniture out of the boxes and I absolutely LOVE the espresso colored wood! I think it is so beautiful!  Unfortunately, all the crib pieces had these obnoxious stickers that took us for-e-ver to get off!  You can see the displeasure on Julian's face...

But finally, after the stickers came off, and after constructing all the pieces (let's be honest, Julian did all that, I just supervised), we finally put all the furniture up in place.  Whew, that was a long night!  It was so much fun and Julian and I had a moment in there, that night, where we looked down at my belly and at the beginnings of her nursery and realized that we did all this...created all this...and best of all, we did it TOGETHER!

Fast forward to the beginning of January, when the bedding that we picked from Pottery Barn came in!  Julian and I spent so much time looking at different bedding options, because it was really important to us to pick colors for her room that are subdued and not "throwing up pink."  We finally chose this set because it had a little pink, but also included blue, green, and yes, even orange.  Grandma Julie wanted to help get Jilly her bedding and we were so excited to get this, mainly because it had her little name embroidered on it!

And now there's no turning back...her name is embroidered on here and so it's official!
Jillian Annalise Acosta

There were only a few more things that we needed in order to make her nursery complete.  In mid-January, the glider we ordered from Babies R Us finally came in (after a long ordeal, we finally got the right one)!  Grandpa and Grandma Fonseca got us her glider and it matches the other furniture perfectly.  Julian got right to work on constructing it...

...And then he took a break!

Now, to put some of the finishing touches on her nursery!  We had seen this perfect print to add to her nursery with all the right colors and so we mounted it on the wall over her changing table.  And I am absolutely in love with all little cupcakes, so when I had a chance to go to U-Paint-It with some friends, we picked these perfect little cupcakes to paint.  I absolutely love them and I can see her playing with them for years to come.  And one of the last pieces we added was the little giraffe in the basket that Julian saw and decided that he loved and wanted his little girl to have!

But the giraffe wasn't the first thing that Julian picked for his little girl.  The FAO monkey in the glider was another of Julian's impulse buys and we will use that monkey as the marker in all her month pictures to measure how big she is getting.  And last, but certainly not least, are the adorable letters that my friend, Katy, made for Jilly!  They are perfect and the great final touch for her nursery!

So there you have it!  Jillian Annalise's nursery is complete!  Can you tell from the huge smiles on our faces that we are ready for the next part of the ride in our Roll-Acosta life??!!  Surely, Jilly will be the most thrilling part to date and parenthood will be the ride of a lifetime!

New Year, New Blog!

You remember the first time you rode a roller coaster, right?!  For me, it was the El Bandido at Western Playland in El Paso.  For Julian, it was the Big Bad Wolf at Busch Gardens in Virginia.

You were probably about 5-10 years old, and there were any of a million reasons that you decided to ride. Maybe it was peer pressure (or sibling pressure, which is far worse)...maybe it was proving your independence...or maybe it was for the sheer curiosity or thrill of it all.  Either way, you anxiously stood in line and waited your turn, unsure of what to expect.  Would you be tall enough?  Would you put your hands up?  Would you puke your guts out when you got off?  Would you love it and want to get on over and over again?
With all your fears and all your anxieties, alas, it was your turn.  Oh my gosh!  Why are they strapping me in?  Why are they laughing?  Why are the telling me to sit back and enjoy the ride?  Why won't they let me off?!
But as the ride started and you could feel yourself moving, you knew you were in store for the ride of a lifetime.  You were not sure of what waited for you around every turn.  You knew that, logically, what went up must come down, but you weren't sure if you'd survive the plunge.  At times, you wanted to keep your eyes wide open, never blinking in case you missed something.  And at other moments, maybe, just maybe, if you closed your eyes, it would all go away.  You knew the ride would come to an end, either with a sudden jerk or a smooth coasting in.
And then it was time to get off.  With wobbly knees, or a sinking stomach, or a new-found courage, or a yearning for more...
And that, folks, is LIFE as we know it.  It's like a roller coaster ride, when each new day brings you to some new adventure, some new ride to explore.  Or the day brings an old, familiar course, that one you know all the twists and turns in store.  Sometimes, it's like riding the highest highs and sometimes, it can feel like you've hit the lowest lows.  That's the Roll-Acosta Life!
Julian and I contemplated starting a blog last year, but we decided that with the new year and a new baby on the way, we would actually get it started.  It is mainly so that we can keep our family and friends, both near and far, informed on what's happening in the life of the Acostas.  We intend for this to include updates on our precious baby girl (who is currently taking her pretty time entering the world), random thoughts on life as we see it, and all the other ups and downs, twists and turns, that make this all such a joyous ride.  So, we hope you fasten your seat belt and enjoy the ride!
This is A Roll-Acosta Life!
